Know before you go

Understanding mineral float therapy.

01

How floating works

The float pod holds warm water with so much Epsom salt dissolved in it that you rest on the surface without effort. Researchers call this flotation-REST, short for restricted environmental stimulation therapy. The idea is simple. With sound, light and the pull of gravity turned down, very little asks for your attention. At Exhale you stay in control of the lid and the light the whole time.

02

What the research says

Research on floating is promising but early. A 2025 systematic review of 63 studies found reported benefits for stress, anxiety, pain and well-being. The authors also pointed to small samples, few control groups and heavy reliance on self-reported results. In one study of 50 adults with anxiety, a single float of up to an hour lowered anxiety and muscle tension right afterward. That study had no control group, so more trials are needed.

03

How long and how often

At Exhale you can book a 90 minute float, or a 5 pack of 60 minute floats if you want a regular rhythm. Floats are also part of some packages, such as a massage, float and tea pairing. Studies have used sessions of roughly 35 to 90 minutes. Some research programs ran a series of floats over several weeks, while others looked at one session. There is no single right schedule.

04

Your first float

Feeling a little nervous before your first float is common, and researchers have noticed it too. Once you are in, try to lie still and let the water hold you. Keep the lid open or the light on if that feels better. Tell us beforehand about any cuts or scrapes, since salt water can sting them. Afterward, rinse off and ease back in with a cup of tea in the tea room.

FAQ

Mineral Float Therapy, answered.

How much does mineral float therapy cost at Exhale?

90 minute float: $100. 5 pack of 60 minute floats: $325. Prices as listed on Exhale's Square booking page, October 2026. Check Square for current prices.

Do I need to know what I'm doing?

No, you do not need any experience. First-time floaters are guided through everything before the session starts. We walk you through the pod and answer your questions first. Once you are in, the main job is to lie back and stay still. You can keep the lid open or the light on if you prefer.

I'm a little claustrophobic. Can I still float?

Yes, many guests with that worry find it easier than they expected. You can leave the door open and the light on for the whole float. A 2025 research review notes claustrophobia can make floating a poor fit for some people, so go at your own comfort level. Call 727-641-1731 if you want to talk it through first.

Will I sink?

No, you will not sink. The water holds so much Epsom salt that it is far denser than a normal bath, so you rest on the surface without effort. You do not need to hold yourself up or tread water. Many guests find that feeling of weightlessness is the best part of the session.

How long is a float?

Most floats at Exhale run 60 or 90 minutes. You can book a single 90 minute float, or a 5 pack of 60 minute floats. Some packages pair a float with a massage and tea. If you are not sure which length fits, ask us when you book or call 727-641-1731.

What should I bring?

Just you, since everything else is provided. If you have a specific question about what to bring, ask us when you book or call 727-641-1731. Let us know before you float if you have any cuts or scrapes. Salt water can sting them, and in one study a floater left early for that reason.

Does floating help with stress and anxiety?

Research suggests floating may ease stress and anxiety, but the studies are small. A 2025 review of 63 studies found reported benefits for stress, anxiety, pain and mood. Many of those studies had no control group and relied on self-report. A float is a way to rest deeply, not a replacement for medical or mental health care.

Who should skip a float?

People with open wounds or severe skin conditions may want to wait, since salt water can sting. A 2025 review names these, plus claustrophobia, as reasons floating may not suit someone, and suggests asking a medical professional first. If you are pregnant, have a heart condition or other health concerns, check with your doctor before you book.
