Know before you go

Understanding compression boots.

01

How compression boots work

Compression boots use a method called intermittent pneumatic compression. A small pump fills sleeves around your feet and legs with air, then lets it out again. Boots with several chambers squeeze in order, starting low and moving up the leg. The idea is to copy the way your leg muscles pump when you walk. At Exhale the boots are Normatec, and you choose a pressure that feels good.

02

What the research says

A 2024 review pooled 17 small studies on leg compression after exercise. It found the clearest benefit was in how sore people felt, especially about two days later. Effects on strength and muscle function were small or unclear. The authors say the evidence is still early and that soreness ratings can be shaped by expectations. So many people enjoy the boots, but the science is modest.

03

How long and how often

A session at Exhale is 30 minutes for $45. That matches the research, where sessions of 20 to 30 minutes were the most common. Studies have not settled on a best schedule, so how often you come depends on your training and what feels good. Exhale also offers red light and compression packs of 3, 5 or 10 sessions.

04

Before and after

Sit back, and we fit the boots for you. Set a pressure that feels firm but comfortable, then relax. Say so if anything feels numb or painful, and the pressure can change or the session can stop. Most guests feel fresher legs right away. If you are unsure what to wear, ask us when you book or call 727-641-1731.
